The Hangtown Kennel Club of Placerville is sponsoring two separate Rattlesnake Avoidance clinics this year. The first session will take place on May 4-5 with registration closing April 24. The second is scheduled June 29-30 with a registration deadline of June 22. Both clinics will take place in the Placerville area.
Rattlesnakes are common in El Dorado County. Treatment is extremely costly, and their bite (if left untreated) is often fatal to dogs. Since rattlesnakes have a unique smell, a distinct look, and a very distinguishable sound, training a dog to recognize it in each of these senses gives the dog triple protection in learning to stay far away from the snake.
