

Sharon Hilliard, 48, of El Dorado Hills, has been appointed chief deputy at the California Employment Development Department. Hilliard has worked in multiple positions at the Employment Development Department since 1983, including deputy director of the Tax Branch, chief of the Field Audit and Compliance Division, chief of the Tax Processing and Accounting Division, chief of Field Audit and Compliance Division–Central Operations and chief of Central Operations and Underground Economy.
This position does not require Senate confirmation and the compensation is $128,064. Hilliard is registered decline-to-state.
Ms. Hilliard began her career in 1983 as a Student Assistant with the Employment Development Department (EDD) while obtaining a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration. Ms. Hilliard has been in a leadership role for much of her career and has worked in a variety of organizations within the EDD including the Field Audit and Compliance Division, Tax Processing and Accounting Division, Tax Support Division, Integrity Accounting Division, and the Directorate’s Office.
Ms. Hilliard is committed to educating employers on employment tax laws and providing the services they need to meet their reporting and payment obligations.
