Old Hangtown Beer Works and Artist Elizabeth Zangari to Kickoff California Craft Beer Month

Old Hangtown Beer Works, Placerville’s only Nanobrewery, has nominated local artist Elizabeth Zangari, to help kick off celebrating February as California Craft Beer Month at the Art of Beer 2013 event to be held Feb. 1 at the Fusion International Arts Center in Sacramento. The Art of Beer celebrates local artists as well as many of Northern California’s finest craft breweries. The event will feature over 25 craft brewers, small bite offerings from some of Sacramento’s finest eateries, an art display produced by Artist Director Jim Shepherd, and a silent auction of various art pieces.

Old Hangtown Beer Works was established in 2010 and is the smallest licensed brewery in the state. In 2012, OHBW produced just under 50 barrels of hand crafted, award winning ales and lagers. OHBW commissioned “Beth” Zangari to draw its logo, which prominently features the Studebaker Wheelbarrow encircled by the Hangtown “Noose.” OHBW crafted a special brew for this event, River Rat Brown, using barley hand malted by Kevin Malia in Sacramento. In addition to River Rat Brown, OHBW will be pouring the Mineshaft Stout, its flagship beer.

Zangari was chosen to draw OHBW’s logo because of her long experience in drawing interesting and relevant pieces, especially related to beer. Beth was the original (and remains the longest running) artist for the Northern California Homebrewers Festival (NCHF). She works in multiple mediums and her display at the Art of Beer will include large decorative hop cones.
