A friend of Lt. Tim Becker of the El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office flew in from Jackson, La to visit but when pilot Mark Hornsby, 53, landed at Georgetown Airport on Jan. 8 he found the runway was shorter than he expected.
“One wheel went off the runway,” Becker said, and the plane, a fixed-wing single-engine Van’s Aircraft RV-4, flipped over into the mud beside the runway.
Hornsby was the sole occupant and did receive minor injuries but was able to get out of the aircraft by himself and declined any medical attention.
