Robert “Bob” Edward Harris, born Feb. 3, 1940, was taken suddenly from this world on Jan. 6, 2013, at the age of 72 years. Bob was a loving and devoted father to his three children, Andy, 48, of Grass Valley, Pam, 47, of South Pasadena, and Scott, 43, who resides in St. Louis, Mo., with wife, Jenine; and an adoring grandfather to his five grandchildren: Andy and Michelle’s children, Karly (20) and Gabe (18) and Pam and Phil’s children Cole (10), Quinn (8), and Danica (7).
Bob retired in 1997 after 30 years of employment with the Forest Service, finishing his career as the Supervisor of the Tahoe Basin. He was an avid baseball umpire of all levels from Little League to semi-professional, a great coach of his sons’ teams, a member of the Sons in Retirement and the Knights of Columbus, a STAR volunteer and instructor with the El Dorado Sheriff Department, and a board member, officer and instructor with the Tahoe-Baikal Institute for 20 years. He traveled frequently to Mongolia to teach environmental conservation and forest management to college students and hosted students from Mongolia who came to Lake Tahoe to study the same subjects.
A rosary service will take place on Jan. 18 at 10:30 a.m., followed by a memorial mass service at 11 a.m. Both services are at St. Patrick Church in Placerville. All of Bob’s friends and family are invited to come and celebrate the life of a truly giving, caring, loving and wonderful man. In lieu of flowers donations may be to the Tahoe-Baikal Institute in Bob’s memory.
