Roll-over accident leaves one dead just north of Diamond Springs

One person was injured and another killed this morning in a one-vehicle accident just north of Diamond Springs in El Dorado County.

Details on the accident reported to authorities at 3:25 a.m. were not immediately available. However, the California Highway Patrol said that the sports utility vehicle overturned on Highway 49 between Truck Street and the Weber Creek bridge.

One person was transported to the hospital and one died on the scene. Highway 49 was blocked until 5:56 a.m.

UPDATE:Two 19-year-olds were in a 2001 Lincoln Navigator when the driver -- who officers said was under the influence -- lost control of the vehicle. The vehicle went off the roadway, rolled over several times, and went into a dirt culvert.

The passenger, who was from Camino, died at the scene, a CHP spokesperson said.

The driver, who is from Placerville, was arrested and faces felony DUI and gross vehicular manslaughter charges.
