Sacramento Co. district attorney Jan Scully won't seek re-election

Longtime Sacramento County District Attorney Jan Scully told her staff Monday afternoon that she will not seek re-election in 2014.

First elected in November 1994, Scully has run unopposed ever since. She began serving her fifth term in January 2011 — and will step down when it ends Dec. 31, 2014. She began her legal career in the office as a deputy district attorney in 1979.
