Bob Dylan wrote in “Like a Rolling Stone”, “When you got nothing, you got nothing to lose.” It seems like almost one million Californians between 16-24 have nothing, have nothing to lose and are DOING nothing.
Of course government will give them food stamps, free health care coverage, cell phones and housing vouchers. What more do they need? Have a baby and you get a bundle more—with government paying for the baby. Government policies have consequences.
““More than 850,000 California teens and young adults, ages 16-24, are neither in school nor working,” according to a new Kids Count report released Dec. 3 by the Annie E. Casey Foundation and Children Now.
Calling them “disconnected youth,” the foundation’s report noted that these comprise 18 percent of this age group and it has grown 35 percent since the year 2000.”
