Rotary Club of Pollock Pines-Camino, Dec 27 2012
Every New Year brings with it the fabulous Tournament of Roses Parade from Pasadena — and for many years the world’s Rotary Clubs have been represented by a beautiful float. This year, the Rotary Club of Pollock Pines-Camino is especially proud to announce that Sam “Woody” Wilbanks, district governor of Rotary District 5190 (which includes the Rotary Club of Pollock Pines-Camino) will be part of this year’s entry.
The 2013 Rotary International Float’s theme is “All The Places We Go,” representing Rotary’s service to the world in the areas of peace and conflict resolution, community and economic development, disease prevention and treatment, basic education and literacy, maternal and child health, and water and sanitation. Rotary’s signature contribution has been its leadership in eliminating polio from the face of the Earth — a task that is almost complete.
The Rotary Club of Pollock Pines-Camino actively supports Rotary’s efforts around the world, and also here at home by offering scholarships to graduating seniors, distributing dictionaries to third grade classes, offering free breakfast with Santa and sponsoring Interact Clubs at Sierra Ridge and Camino schools as well as many other community based projects.
District Gov. Willbanks has been a Rotarian since 1997, and is a member of the Rotary Club of Loyalton. He and his wife Kim have served Rotary in many different ways, including his service to young people through the Rotary Youth Leadership Awards program and the Rotary Youth Exchange program.
