As this publication has pointed out in previous articles, there is a rising trend currently in the United States toward artisanal, organic spirits. And one place where you can sample a large selection of these increasingly popular drinks is at the upcoming Whiskies of the World Expo on San Francisco's waterfront.
The event attracts more than 1400 guests each year to sample various spirits from around the world, as well as the chance to meet those responsible for making them.
For 2012, the expo features three full ballroom-sized decks of tasting booths and other features. Hundreds of Whiskies and Artisanal Spirits are available to sample, with some from the immediate San Francisco Bay Area and others from as far away as India and Australia. In addition, hosted on the top deck will be the annual Cigar and Whisky pairing.
One of the featured distillers this year is Belmont-based Old World Spirits. Started by Davorin Kuchan, a Croatian-born third generation winemaker and master distiller, the company is dedicated to producing world class artisanal spirits and alcoholic beverages.
