JIM RIORDAN, Dec 19 2012
To me gun control consists of proper pre-purchase screening, proper training, a proper stance, proper grip, and holding a proper sight picture when confronted by a bad guy. No one in this great country will ever be able to effectively implement “gun control” by eliminating firearms. It is not going to be possible.
In all the screams of unknowing liberals ranting over and over that “all guns should be confiscated or destroyed,” I have to say I laugh about how ignorant those thoughts and statements are. Throughout all of the liberal rants regarding the recent shootings by troubled savages or bully types, never once have I heard anyone mention what I am about to tell you.
It is absolutely impossible to control or eliminate all guns in this or any other country. Why? Here is the real world answer I never hear. I am a machinist and engineering type. With the simplest lathe and milling machine a functioning firearm can be produced in a few days. With access to a CNC (computer numerically controlled) mill and lathe, hundreds of fire arms can be made in a few days. And, they can hold very close tolerances, which will shoot accurately enough and dependably. No one seems to get this!
So what happens when you send people to prison? You send them to “career training.” And what are the most common forms of career training? Why, they send these losers into a wood shop or metal shop.to “learn a trade.” Give me a break! Once there, they can easily and quickly learn all they need to know to make crude firearms and to cast and machine parts to make fully functional firearms with a little more work. Finally, formulas for making gunpowder or more powerful propellants are all over the Web. Bullets are easy to cast or machine.
I know plenty of law abiding machinists, including myself who could, and would, fabricate fully functioning firearms within days to shoot back at outlaws who had quote “off the shelf unlawful guns.” In my opinion the real answer is not “Use a gun and go to jail” it should be, “Use a gun in a crime, NEVER get out of jail.” And, “kill with a gun, die by firing squad.”
I will never forget when Diane Feinstein proudly showed photos of a large barge in San Francisco Bay, piled high with handguns, which was being towed out to the center of the bay by tug boats to be dumped into the murky depths. I recall average normal appearing citizens standing by the dock and watching as the barge headed out.
I suppose the loudest applause, accompanied by laughter, came from all the crooks, muggers and n’er do wells who were watching the disposal of all the weapons they did not have to worry about being shot by anymore. Guess no one got film of those folks who undoubtedly outnumbered the squid brains clapping as their last lines of defense were being removed from them.
In this latest tragedy at Sandy Hook, I have been surprised at the lack of mention and focus on the fact that the guns used in the shooting were purchased and owned by a person who was presumably not a criminal, yet she knew she had a child who was simply “not right” and yet it appears she did nothing to keep the weapons locked in the safe out of his reach. So how much blame should she bear? I say, most of it. Out of all the people who should be thinking of all the children in her son’s school she should have known all of those weapons should have been out of the reach of others especially a son who was “troubled.” She bears a majority of the blame, not the firearms.
White collar types lack a fundamental understanding of why there will never be such a thing as “total gun control” They seemingly assume that Smith & Wesson, Colt, Ruger and others are the only ones who possess the equipment, materials, and skill to produce firearms. This is a patently false assumption. In fact, so much so that it is a pathetic joke. Try visiting Williamsburg Va., and you can watch up close and personal as gunsmiths produce rifles and pistols right before your eyes just as they did in the late 1700s. I have been there, done that.
Now, add in the often horrific violence so commonplace in the computer and video games that so many kids are weaned on and addicted to, it should come as no surprise, perhaps, that not only are the most evil and inhuman of mass murders possible, they may soon become commonplace.
How pathetic it was to watch all these politicos who took NRA money for elections and now “change their mind.” I say, they should return every dollar they took from NRA or other pro-gun groups and return it now.
Here is the bottom line truth on Sandy Hook. A mother who knew she had a troubled son, took him out and taught him to shoot assault weapons and then failed to lock up her firearms, including the assault weapons out of reach of an unpredictable, troubled child. I would not doubt that she probably also supplied the kid with one or more of those junk video games that encourage killing with semi-auto or fully auto firearms. And get “points” for each kill! She is where the buck stops. She failed to observe the most basic rules of owning such weapons. Lock ‘em up when not in use.
To the government rats who think taking firearms away and trampling on our Second Amendment rights is the answer to these senseless killings, I recommend you ask yourselves, do you idiots really think removing guns will stop the insanity that parents have encouraged or overlooked in their misbegotten offspring? Think again.
Next attack after guns are gone will be from some looney with a garden sprayer full of gasoline running into a public place and spraying and frying people with it. What will you do then, outlaw garden sprayers? Outlaw gasoline? This country needs to begin putting violent people in lock-up at an early age. Russia certainly is not my choice of a place to live, but that seems to be their solution and how many incidents like this do you hear about from Russia?
The American people need to wake up. Guns are not the problem. Errant, sick people are the problem. So how come we are not testing kids in school at early ages to spot potential lethal conditions? We are certainly wasting enough dollars on worthless school “shrinks” though aren’t we? The same goes for the dollars wasted on “Health and Human Services” personnel who cannot identify these people although they are paid plenty to do it. Biggest take-away here should be, you can outlaw guns all you want but criminals can fabricate them as fast as you confiscate them.
