A Gold River man was trapped in snow and died Sunday on a ski run at Sierra-at-Tahoe Resort.
At approximately 1:43 PM on Sunday (3/18/12) El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office personnel received information that a subject was trapped in the snow at the Sierra at Tahoe Ski Resort in the Castle Creek area.
The scene of the incident was near Castle ski run in an expert ski area. Deputies and volunteer Search and Rescue personnel responded to Sierra at Tahoe. Upon their arrival they were advised that an adult male skier had fallen into a deep hole created by an underflow of water.
The victim was found by other skiers. Ski Patrol responded and provided care. The victim was not breathing when he was found. The 54 year old victim (Yiwei Hu of Gold River, California) was pronounced deceased at the scene after rescue efforts were ineffective.
