A federal grand jury returned an 11-count indictment today against Mark E. Leung, 58, charging him with mail and wire fraud -- and making a false statement to obtain federal workers' compensation benefits.
The indictment alleges that Leung worked for the U.S. Postal Service until 1987 when he claimed he sustained an on-the-job injury. He never returned to full-time work with the postal service.
He received about $160,000 from 2007 to 2012 in compensation benefits. To get the benefits, according to a press release from the U.S Attorney's office, he submitted an annual certification form and had his medical providers attest that he could not perform any work due to pain that limited his movement.
Federal authorities allege that he was not disabled and that he had a yearly ski pass from a Tahoe-area resort. He was also seen doing physical labor, the release stated.
