With Thanksgiving now a memory and balmy weather beckoning, thousands flocked to the foothills of El Dorado County on Friday to choose their own freshly cut and perfectly shaped Christmas tree.
Among them were Joyce Pomicpic, her husband, two children, and their Labrador retriever who drove up from Folsom to buy a tree at Smarts Christmas Tree Farm in Camino. Slowly weaving their way through hundreds of trees, they searched for just the right one, saying they have bought their tree from the same place for the last eight years.
Smarts farm owners Jim and Michelle Piazza said over the next three weeks they expect to sell about 500 trees, with Silvertip being the most popular.
