City of Placerville Residents -- Avoid Higher Sewer Charges
If you are a residential ratepayer, who irrigated during the winter
period and you believe your irrigation use will artificially increase your
wastewater charges in the future, please complete the wastewater adjustment
Residential wastewater charges are calculated using the amount of water consumed during the previous winter (December to February). This time period is preferred because residents typically use little or no water for irrigating which does not go into the City’s sewer system. The water consumption used to calculate residential wastewater charges is “reset” each September bill with the previous winter water consumption which is used to bill the following twelve months. For example, the wastewater charges billed beginning in September 2012, will be calculated using the water that was consumed between December 2011 and February 2012. If a ratepayer chose to irrigate during the December to February period, they could potentially use hundreds or even thousands of cubic feet of water that did not go into the sewer system but would artificially increase their wastewater charges for a twelve month period beginning in September 2012.
The City recognizes the unusually dry weather Northern California has experienced between December 2011 and February 2012 and is committed to working with residents who chose to water their landscaping to help mitigate the relatively warm day-time temperatures with little or no precipitation. If you are a residential ratepayer, who irrigated during the winter period and you believe your irrigation use will artificially increase your wastewater charges in the future, please complete the wastewater adjustment request form on the back of this sheet and return it to the City along with your utility payment. You can determine if your winter water consumption increased by comparing the consumption amounts shown in the water charge section of the bill to the amount shown as your previous year usage (please see the attached example). If you purchase water from the El Dorado Irrigation District (EID), please refer to your EID bill or call the City’s Finance Department at 530.642.5225 for more information. Upon receiving your completed request form, the City will review your account, and determine if an adjustment should be made. If it’s determined that your current winter water consumption increased due to irrigation use, the City will calculate your wastewater charges using the previous winter consumption from December 2010 to February 2011 beginning with the September 2012 bill. Please send your completed request form to the City no later than June 30, 2012.
