Think Californians make a lot of money compared to the rest of the nation? The cost of living is higher here than in the middle of the country and residents of the Golden State aren't seeing disposable personal income grow as much as in the rest of the country.
Income grew from $36,042 in 2006 to $38,308 in 2011, for an increase of 6.29 percent, according to an On Numbers look at U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis data. That put California at No. 49 in the country, ahead of only Arizona and Nevada.
