Local Preps Shine on High School Exit Exam

The CAHSEE measures whether public high school students demonstrate grade level competency in English/Language Arts and Mathematics.

In 2012, 91 percent of El Dorado County students passed the English/Language Arts section and 90 percent passed the math section of the CAHSEE on their first attempt in the 10th grade.

Students are provided with additional opportunities to take the test in grades 10, 11 and 12 if they do not pass on the first attempt.

In El Dorado County, 80 percent of students who needed to retake the test in grades 10, 11 or 12, passed the CAHSEE English/Language Arts section and 79 percent passed the Mathematics section compared to the state’s 67 percent percent on the English/Language Arts section and 65 percent percent on the Mathematics section.

Passing rates in El Dorado County have steadily improved since the test was implemented in 2006-07, increasing by an average of 2 percent per year in both English/Language Arts and Mathematics.

County Superintendent of Schools Vicki Barber credits El Dorado County’s strong passing percentages to its focus on the state Content Standards and instructional programs that meet student needs.
