Trout Unlimited topic is wild trout on Thursday
Stephanie Mehalick of the California Department of Fish and Game will be the speaker at the next meeting of the El Dorado Chapter of Trout Unlimited.
Mehalick, who works with the department's Heritage and Wild Trout Program, will explain how wild trout streams are designated.
The meeting is scheduled for 7 p.m. Thursday in the Eldorado National Forest conference room, 100 Forni Road, Placerville. To learn more, visit www.eldoradotu.org.
Stephanie Mehalik of the California Department of Fish and Game, Heritage and Wild Trout organization will be the speaker. She works principally conducting surveys with their statewide crew. The meeting will be held in the Forest Service Coference Room at the rear of their Briw Road building.
Stephanie Mehalick has been the crew leader for the Statewide Wild Trout Crew since 2007. A graduate from Syracuse University in NY, Stephanie began her fisheries career with the United States Forest Service in Alaska conducting research and monitoring on salmonids and their freshwater habitats. After four years with the Forest Service, she moved to CA and participated on a Lahontan cutthroat trout research study through the University of CA at Davis. Since her inception into the HWTP, Stephanie not only leads the statewide crew in resource assessment, but analyzes the data, provides management recommendations to program staff, and participates in outreach and education of wild trout opportunities to the public. As an avid angler of CA wild trout, Stephanie is looking forward to discussing the HWTP and potential volunteer opportunities for the El Dorado Chapter of Trout Unlimited on Thursday, March 15, 2012 - 7:00 pm.
