“There is a whole generation that has not yet experienced the beautiful, fluid designs of the Bennett brothers. I felt compelled to return Bennett Sculpture to the best art gallery location in the world… so here we are, in Carmel, and in the same building a full thirty years later.”
Debi Bennett’s downtown Carmel’s newest Gallery consists of artwork by an accomplished family of artists. Bob Bennett and his identical twin, Tom Bennett, are well known as sculptors who produced and marketed their sculptures in more than twenty Bennett Sculpture Galleries across the country, for more than three decades.
The late 90′s saw the closing of the Bennett Foundry in Placerville and the galleries soon were to follow. In 2003 Bob Bennett, Sr. passed away. Several years later, Bennett Gallery was re-opened by Bob’s family in their home town of Placerville, California. This venture quickly developed into a very successful on-line Bennett Awards company offering both Bob and Tom Bennett sculptures, as well as Custom Award designs.
The Bennett legacy has thrived in the awards business, providing unique sculpture awards to celebrities and businesses of all tiers. This venture run by Bob Bennett Jr., his wife Alice Bennett, and Debi Bennett (Bob Sr’s wife of 25- years) has touched countries around the world.
After ten years of creating custom awards, Debi Bennett along with her new partner, Bill Nordvik, decided Bennett Sculpture needed to return to their place in the art world and to their collectors. The original Bennett Sculpture Carmel sign was located, touched up, and hung above the now re-opened doors of the Bennett Sculpture Carmel Gallery on August 1st. The response has been nothing but positive with many “Welcome Back ” messages and smiles for what will be.
The legacy of the Bennett brothers continues with the classic Bennett Sculpture collection, created by the twin brothers of abstract and realism, as well as the latest artworks by each of their incredibly talented daughters.
Tom’s daughter, Terrie Bennett, started sculpting as a young girl in the Bennett Foundry, focusing on nature and marine life sculpture. She has owned and operated her own galleries in Malibu, California, and Taos, New Mexico. Terrie was recently selected by the Space Foundation to create a very special award to commemorate the retirement of the Space Shuttle Program this past year. The sculpture was presented at last year’s Space Symposium and is now on display at NASA headquarters.
Bob’s daughter, Ashley Bennett-Stoddard, has been painting and sculpting for most of her young adult life. Ashley adds lots of bright color to the mix and her strong spirit shows within her paintings. You can easily see that she has inherited her father’s incredible sense of line and design. Ashley now lives in Utah and continues to work with galleries throughout the country, selling hundreds of her original works of art.
Bennett Sculpture Carmel is located in the Cottage Row building on San Carlos, between 5th and 6th streets. It is open seven days a week.
