The Club’s new color brochure loudly proclaims “Proud to be an American & a Democrat.” The club wants to be the face and voice of Democrats living on the Georgetown Divide. The club’s brochure asks, “We want YOU! To JOIN TODAY…for social events, vigorous political debate, community service, and accountability in government. “
The group had a very successful presence at the Georgetown Founders’ Day event, signing up 17 new members and registering over 20 new voters. They handed out free “compliments of Divide Democrats” bottled water and even had a water dish for their doggie visitors.
Last month the group held a town hall meeting in Garden Valley that attracted over 50 local residents to hear Democratic hopeful Jack Uppal talk about his race against Congressman Tom McClintock. Club members have been phoning for both Uppal and President Barack Obama’s campaigns. Their registration drive continues, and at their last meeting September 26th, they discussed plans for GOTV, talked about ballot measures to be voted upon, and planned a rousing victory party for Election Night.
The club has a Facebook paged stocked with pictures, current events, information and comments. Their impressive and up-to-date Internet home page at www.dividedemocrats.org includes a calendar of club and political events such as local nonpartisan candidate forums, club photos, key election date information, voter registration drive information, an “about us” page with their color brochure included, Democratic Convention news and texts of convention key speeches, and a list of endorsements by the El Dorado Democratic Party.
Their web pages also include previous press releases and club newsletters, an “announcements and meetings” page, and an extensive 50+ list of web links to candidates, elected officials, government offices, local newspapers, the League of Women Voters, and the club’s Facebook page, email and telephone number.
If you are interested in seeing the club in action, their next meetings prior to the November Elections are October 10th and 24th at the Music Studio in Cool. For directions or more information about the club, go to www.dividedemocrats.org or call club President Pam Greer at 887-797-DEMS ext. 65 or email dividedemocrats@gmail.com.
