Betty (Mema) Doll Sarazin McMicken
Betty was one of 12 children born to Frank L. Sarazin (former Minnesota State Senator) and Laura V. (Cramer) Sarazin (homemaker) in Wabasha, Minn. Only one sister survives her — Leona Cantrell of Mesa, Ariz. After a whirlwind courtship of two weeks, Betty married Grant (Mac) McMicken on July 29, 1942. Until 1976 they lived in Torrance, Calif., then moved to Rescue. Grant passed on Dec. 10, 1988.
Everyone who knew our Mother loved her. She never had a bad word to say about anyone. Her first grandchild (Danny) called her Mema. Others shortened it to Meem while others simply called her grandma. The next two generations continued the tradition. Betty (Mother) loved to gamble and frequently reminisced about the many conversations she had had with Margaret Dalton at Jackson Rancheria. She started visiting Jackson when the first tent was constructed and continued for many years until she could no longer travel. During her last few years her friend Karen Key would drive her to bingo.
Mother loved to play scrabble with family and friends. There was always a jig-saw puzzle (in some state of completion) on the dining room table and she was always ready for a game of cards (pinochle, spades, solitaire or poker). Mother was competitive, an excellent opponent. We will dearly miss all those wonderful times. Her legacy is the loving, tender goodness she bestowed on her children, Betty Jean McMicken-Price (Greg), Grant M. McMicken (Jennifer) and Vernon J. McMicken; her six grandchildren, Danny, Leigh, Nancy, Lance, Timothy and Sarah; family friend, Ron; 15 great-grandchildren; and 10 great-great-grandchildren. She had a large extended family of nieces, nephews and cousins, far too numerous to name, but all of whom will sorrow in her passing.
Mother, your passing leaves a hole in our hearts that can never be filled. We love you!
There will be no services per Mother’s wishes. Those who wish can make a donation in her name to the VFW. Friends are invited to sign the online guest book and leave condolences at chapelofthepinesfunerals.com.
