
Karl J. Placek Jr., 78, of Shingle Springs, Calif., was born Sept. 26, 1933, in Alhmabra, Calif., and passed away Sept. 1, 2012, at his home. He started at Pacific Telephone Company at the age of 17. He served in the Army Signal Corp from 1953 to 1955, then continued his service with Pacific Telephone until 1984, when he retired. He was a central office technician and then moved into troubleshooting. After moving to Shingle Springs in 1979, he was a charter member of the Early Ford V8 Club.
Karl is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Barbara Placek; son, K. James Placek (wife Kimberly); daughter, Kathryn Krejci (husband Tom); five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
There will be no services, per his request. Remembrances may be made to a charity of your choice. Arrangements by Green Valley Mortuary in Cameron Park.
