El Dorado Hills Residents Mobilize Against Mather Airport Noise
Last week El Dorado Hills TEA Party members sounded the alarm about cargo flight noise over El Dorado county communities of El Dorado Hills, Cameron Park, and Rescue. In an email chain that goes to thousands of local residents Bill Bryant wrote, "The EDC BOS must act on this issue." TPPEDH member John Hiney (an American Airlines Captain and a long term TPPEDH member) said this is an issues that will have a major impact on our community that is being pushed by Sacramento County. Supervisor Ron Briggs is on record objecting to the noise generated by Mather Airport Cargo flights.
In earlier objections to low level cargo flights over the county community leaders wrote, "It’s not too late to stop the expansion, protect your property values and preserve the quality of life we all enjoy."
"Dozens of aircraft will be cruising over your community, day and night, making as much noise as a vacuum cleaner right next to your bed!"
"Noise is bad for everyone. It interferes with sleep, it aggravates high-blood pressure, it causes irritability and loss of productivity, and it is implicated in mental-health problems. Jet noise makes it hard to carry on normal conversations in some of our most heavily impacted areas such as those areas beneath the approach path for Mather."
"Noise is harmful to children. People who live and work under aircraft noise are being hurt by it, especially children. Jet plane noise has been proven to cause permanent high blood pressure in kids. Classroom noise, especially from jet planes, has been proven over and over to cause severe learning problems. Cornell University, in particular, has been studying this problem for years. The results are quite clear. Noise is bad for kids – at home, in the yard, at the park and at school."
"El Dorado and Sacramento County residents care about noise. They want peace and quiet in their homes, gardens, parks, schools, businesses, hospitals and religious buildings. El Dorado and Sacramento County residents have consistently rejected claims by the SCAS: Sacramento County Airport System that noise only adversely affects those neighborhoods within a mile or two of the airport. Substantial noise problems exist as far away as Georgetown with inbound flights beginning as early as 3:00 am and coming in low and loud over the communities of Rescue, Shingle Springs, Cameron Park, El Dorado Hills and Folsom."
The El Dorao County Board of Supervisors is one of the few county bodies that have standing to cause changes in flight times and elevations over El Dorado County homes and schools. It is hard to determine how some Supervisors will respond to the public movement when deep-pocketed political junky and donor Ken Steers, President, Freight Solution Providers. Ken is well known among politicians for contributing thousands of dollars to campaigns. Ken is originally from Oakland via Oregon. In 1989, Ken and Lielanie started their company, KLS Air Express, Inc. dba Freight Solution Providers (FSP). FSP has grown into the nation's largest female minority owned freight forwarder. FSP is certified with the NCSDC, CPUC and the NWBOC as a Minority Women Owned business. FSP is operated out of Rancho Cordova and uses Mather Airport.
Restrictions in flight times, elevations, or climb rates equal money in the air freight business.
