A Cool woman is dead and an Auburn woman critically injured after a head-on collision on Highway 193 last week, according to Placerville California Highway Patrol.
Last Thursday around 3:43 p.m., Corrine Haggarty, 49, of Auburn, was driving her 2004 F250 pickup truck south on Highway 193, according to Dan Stark, CHP spokesman.
Haggarty crossed the double-yellow line and struck a 2005 Dodge Neon being driven by Rhonda Phillips, 49, of Cool, Stark said. Phillips was pronounced dead at the scene and Haggarty was airlifted to Sutter Roseville Medical Center with critical injuries.
Haggarty was listed in serious condition at Sutter Roseville on Monday, according to Liz Madison, spokesperson for the hospital.
Alcohol does not appear to be a factor in the accident and both women involved were wearing their seatbelts, according to the CHP. Stark added that a tire blowout on Haggarty's truck might have contributed to the accident, but an investigation into that factor is still being conducted.
