Big Changes - Same Commitment at Fitzpatrick Winery & Lodge
by Brian Fitzpatrick
Fitzpatrick Winery & Lodge is not only Fair Play's oldest winery it's now undergoing a dramatic renovation that you don't want to miss. What is fueling this nothing short of fantastic flurry of futuristic positioning is new ownership and all the excitement that comes from the new owners Vivian, Max and Sharon. The most unique aspect of these big changes is that the Fitzpatrick family is still ever-present in the everyday operations and committed to making the transition all good for Brian and Diana's three decades of customers, so many of whom are more like friends and most appreciated.
The improvements are striking and will remain in progress until the goal of making this hilltop facility the Grande Chateau of Fair Play's wine country. Come visit now and visit often to experience the improvements and feel the excitement. What has always been coveted as the place to stay overnight in Fair Play has now been catapulted into a luxury bed and breakfast but without losing its Fitzpatrick hospitality and country charm. Plan ahead for bookings, especially weekends and holidays, but a weekday stay is a hidden treasure that Fair Play wine lovers can enjoy with less pre-planning.
Friday Night Wood-Fired Oven Pizza is still going strong now in its 17th season so check out the schedule of weekly musical talent posted on their website. The Fitzpatricks have created many enduring Fair Play traditions with Friday Pizza being the most famous but their Ploughman's Lunch and now expended Winetasters' Menu served every Saturday and Sunday is a welcomed respite from a hard day's work of winetasting at Fair Play's many offerings. One can imagine that in a group of wine tasters not everyone is so thrilled about a long day of winetasting, so years ago Brian answered that call by stocking a selection of cold beer which now includes a world favorite Guinness on tap no less.
Most everyone knows of the Fitzpatrick commitment to farming without the use of synthetic fertilizers and toxic chemicals and Brian's commitment to "making this most civilized beverage in a most responsible way". The new owners are equally committed to carry on that commitment of purity and unspoiled quality. The concerted efforts of the last decade here in improving winemaking demand every wine aficionados attention. Now in their fourth decade the quality of winemaking continues to be the number one focus of this estate winery which grows more than 14 varieties and bottles at times more offerings than that. Enjoy their many varietals and proprietary blends like Tir na nOg and Tippitonia, and port style dessert wines too. Fitzpatrick wines are all true expressions of the Fair Play soils from which they grow and you can enjoy that experience every time you "uncork the magic" of Fitzpatrick wines sitting atop that magnificent panorama or at home.
