Attempted Carjacking of Tania Nichols and her Two Young Daughters in Cameron Park
On Monday August 6th at 9:30 am, the El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office, California Highway Patrol Officers, and a California Highway Patrol Helicopter responded to a 911 call reporting an attempted carjacking at the Clean Wash Shingle Springs business on Durock Road in Cameron Park.
The reporting party and victim, Tania Nichols of Cameron Park, advised Deputies that she and her two daughters (8 and 10 years old) had stopped at the car wash and were getting change from the coin machine, when a white male, later identified as Daniel Craig Wright, tried to steal her car. Nichols ran back to her car while her daughters hid behind the coin machine and Nichols started fighting with Wright, in an attempt to stop him from stealing her car. Nichols was able to drag Wright out of the car, at which time he fled on foot toward Strolling Hills Road.
Deputies and CHP Officers immediately began searching the area and the CHP Helicopter spotted a person matching the suspect description running on Lariat Loop. When an El Dorado County Sheriff K9 Unit attempted to contact Wright on Lariat Loop, he fled through the brush. After a short foot chase, the Deputy deployed his K9 partner and when Wright was bit by the K9, he began violently assaulting the Sheriff K9. The Deputy Sheriff K9 Handler intervened and attempted to handcuff Wright. Wright continued to violently resist and fought both the Deputy and the K9 for a short time, until the Deputy was able to handcuff Wright and take him into custody.
Wright was taken to Marshall Hospital for treatment of injuries received during his arrest and was then booked into the County Jail on multiple charges including Attempted Carjacking, Assaulting a Police K9, and Resisting Arrest.
He is being held on $780,000 bail. Two enhancements were added for prior felony convictions and being on misdemeanor probation.
