The Sun Rock fire, which began 12:47 p.m. Thursday has expanded across 14 acres about two miles northeast of Union Valley Reservoir in the Crystal Basin.
Fire crews were able to establish a line on the majority of the fire overnight.
Smaller flames have sprung up away from the main fire, but officials said they are confident that crews will make headway today containing the fire.
Eight engines, two hand crews, one helicopter and four water tenders have been dispatched to the fire.
As of Friday morning, the fire was 35 percent contained.
