The Nevada Department of Wildlife said the public has nothing to worry about after a mountain lion killed a deer close to a Lake Tahoe resort and campground.
Associated Press, July 29, 2012
The Tahoe Daily Tribune reported Wednesday’s incident raised concern because it occurred close to the Zephyr Cove Lodge and campgrounds.
But Nevada Department of Wildlife spokesman Chris Healy said mountain lions stay away from humans and domestic animals as much as possible, and the lion in question did not display any unusual behavior.
University of Nevada, Reno researcher Alyson Andreasen said she set up a box trap with the deer body inside in an attempt to catch the lion Wednesday night, but the animal never returned.
She said the trap was removed Thursday because the lion is not likely to return.
