On June 24, 2012, at 7:24 P.M., the El Dorado County Sheriff's Office responded to a reported domestic violence call at the Buckeye Mobile Home Park in Georgetown. While responding, Deputies were advised the female victim’s father had arrived on scene and was now fighting with the suspect, who had armed himself with a knife.
When Deputies arrived, they learned the suspect, 21 year old Dustin Eastus of Georgetown, had been in a physical altercation with his girlfriend Shelby Lotze, and her father Linzy Cotham intervened and fought with Eastus. Eastus fled the area on foot after fighting with Cotham.
At the mobile home park, Deputies found Cotham injured and bleeding from head and face. Cotham was contacted by County Fire paramedics at the request of the investigating Deputies, but initially declined medical treatment. While being interviewed, Cotham’s condition quickly deteriorated and he lost consciousness. Paramedics immediately began treating Cotham and he was transported to Sutter Roseville Medical Center by helicopter where he was treated for serious injuries received during the fight with Eastus.
Eastus was located by Deputies the next day near the mobile park and arrested without incident. Eastus was booked on charges of Assault with Great Bodily Injury, Terrorist Threats, Domestic Violence, and Brandishing a Knife.
