A solar manufacturing plant in North Las Vegas that received millions of dollars in federal grant money has closed after only 14 months.
The Associated Press, July 18, 2012 Amonix, a company that designed and developed concentrated photovoltaic solar power systems, received a $15.6 million federal grant approved in 2007 and a separate $5.9 million tax credit from the Treasury Department in 2010 under the stimulus law.
Republican Gov. Brian Sandoval in May 2011 hailed the arrival of the plant to make concentrated photovoltaic systems, and Democratic President Barack Obama mentioned Amonix in a 2010 Las Vegas speech discussing manufacturing tax credits.
