The crystal bearing zone was only about 4"-10" between hard quartz vein but was packed with points in a solid pocket clay. After a bit of work opening up the vein I started to pull out some nice crystals.
Today I went hiking around El Dorado County, California looking for Quartz Crystals. I have been researching the localities and scouting areas for a few years now and have been fortunate enough to find a few reasonable local pockets. As I was searching around the forest today between stops I noticed a small pit in the distance. I quickly noticed it was a crystal bearing Quartz vein and started working the pocket.
-The crystal bearing zone is centered horizontally under the quartz shelf, the zone off to the left ended up producing the biggest points.-
-Here, you can see a crystal within the pocket.-
After the second half of a scouting trip turned into digging surge with inadequate tools I was able to produce some of the finer local quartz I've been able to collect in El Dorado County.
-The days take has 2 superb crystals, among many other gems--
-Well, this has got to be my favorite crystal of the day, the clarity is unreal.-
Hope you guys enjoyed the adventure to the hills of Northern California for Quartz Crystals. I sure hope I can produce more crystals from my local hills of this quality. The Pocket has much more too, till next time. Keep Digging.
