A special task force will release the results of their six month investigation into a radical idea to more efficiently use your tax dollars Friday. The El Dorado County grand jury is suggesting voters consider doing away with duplicative administrative offices by dissolving city government in favor of just having a county government. The group says, savings they identified could be better used for things like road work.“If you start putting all those numbers together, pretty soon you've got a million here and a million there, which is basically going for the luxury of saying, we're a city,” grand jury leader Ted Long said.
City leaders argue there was a clear reason their government was put there in the first place,
“It's important that we have local control, you can talk to us. We're all around town all the time seven days a week. Dealing with Placerville is often impossible because of the distance,” South Lake Tahoe Mayor Pro Tem Tom Davis said.
News 4 also requested comment from el dorado county leaders, they didn't get back to us.
But long says they told the grand jury this is a welcomed idea, and they look forward to researching it more in the future.
