Fifteen year old Tommy Horn turned over his Eagle Scout Project to the El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office Canine Unit at a dedication ceremony on June 28, 2012 at the Placerville Sheriff’s Office. Tommy chose to provide the El Dorado Sheriff’s Office Canine Unit with kennels and a canine wash station.Tommy began his journey to Eagle Scout as a Cub Scout, graduating through the ranks until he bridged over into the Boy Scouts in 2008. Since participating in Boy Scouts he has completed 30 merit badges in areas of citizenship, personal management, fitness, outdoor skills and shooting sports. Tommy has held numerous leadership positions in the troop, to include: Patrol Leader, Troop Chaplain, Assistant Senior Patrol Leader and Senior Patrol Leader.
Tommy was looking for a challenging and beneficial Eagle Scout Project in Community Service/ Wildlife Management/ or Animal Care. After reviewing many options, Tommy chose to provide the El Dorado Sheriff’s Office Canine Unit with kennels and a canine wash station. The project met both Tommy's community service and animal care areas of interest. He began researching and planning his project in Jan 2012. He spoke to several past and present Canine Officers and gathered input and suggestions. Tommy met with the Sheriff’s Office Canine Sergeant and Sheriff D’Agostini for their input. They both thought the project was a great idea and fully supported it. Sheriff D'Agostini gave Tommy the approval to construct the kennel and wash station in the back parking lot of the Placerville Sheriff’s Office.
Tommy began pricing materials and realized it would cost approximately $2000 to complete his project. Tommy presented his project plan to the El Dorado County Deputy Sheriff’s Association, the El Dorado Hills Firefighter’s Association, numerous deputies, friends and family and acquired the necessary donations to fund the project. Detective John Yaws provided all the concrete and made himself available on every project work day, until the project was completed.
Sheriff D’Agostini inspected Tommy’s workmanship and acknowledged a job well done by signing Tommy’s Eagle Scout Project paperwork on June 19, 2012. Tommy will turn the project over to the El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office Canine Unit at a dedication ceremony on June 28, 2012 at 3PM in the back parking lot of the Placerville Sheriff’s Office. Tommy received so much financial support for his project that he will be donating excess proceeds to the El Dorado County Canine Association at the dedication ceremony.
Tommy advised that he would like to personally thank Sheriff D'Agostini, the El Dorado County Deputy Sheriff’s Association, the El Dorado Hills Firefighters Association, Deputy Johnnie Yaws, Friends, and Family for their support. “Without their support the project would not have been possible.
