JEANNE HARPER, June 26, 2012
There is no other community in El Dorado County that can boast of having a 13-hour party to celebrate our nation's birthday. Starting with the traditional pancake breakfast at the old fire house at 7 a.m.; followed by the best craft show in the county (all handmade crafts) from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the El Dorado Savings parking lot; followed by a carnival-like festival at the Community Church from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. (best bounces); followed by the annual 4th of July Parade, the longest in the county, from 12 to 1 p.m. right on down Pony Express Trail; followed by pure Americana hot dogs, root beer floats and parade trophies from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m.; and to top the evening off, the "Patriots Party in the Plaza," with dancing and cavorting, and all kinds of birthday fun with Honky Tonk Asylum starting at 5 p.m. and lasting until 8 pm.And the best part ... free admission to the PPP ... Patriots party, that is. Bring an all American picnic (homemade or bought from one of 16 eateries in Pollock Pines), a blanket or lawn chair, and get ready to kick back, or kick up and let Uncle Sam know how happy you are to be living in the good ole' U.S. of A. Oh ... and there will be a good old fashioned checkers tournament, as well as egg races, trivia, Americana bingo and water play for tiny ones. Might even be few prizes given out. Come on out to the plaza and party down.
