Roll Hill Arts Academy Jazz Band Wins Top Honors
Curtis Gaesser, Roll Hill Arts Academy Jazz Band, June 25, 2012The Roll Hill Arts Academy Jazz Band from El Dorado Hills recently returned from the Next Generation Jazz Festival in Monterey with top honors. The Monterey festival hosts only the top middle school and high school jazz musicians who have auditioned for a spot to compete there. The band placed third in the conglomerate division, competing against jazz bands from all over the country.
The non-profit Roll Hill Arts Academy was founded by Curtis Gaesser.
“We have people with doctorate degrees giving lessons to beginners so they’re being trained correctly,” Gaesser said. “The jazz band was put together with students from Oak Ridge, Ponderosa, Vista, Folsom, and Granite Bay high schools.”
Future endeavors of RHAA will feature private and group instruction into the visual arts, including photography, sketching, and painting.
